How our HPV Indicator works and what it shows

Updated over a month ago

Hippo’s HPV indicator identifies and recalls patients aged 18–24 years who are eligible for HPV vaccination but have not yet received it.

It aligns with NHS vaccination guidance and supports proactive recall for both females and eligible males born on or after 1 September 2006.

Description

Eligibility date: Date of Birth + 18 years

Patients become eligible on their 18th birthday and remain eligible until the day before their 25th birthday.

βœ… In short: recall begins when a patient turns 18 and continues until they reach 25.

⚠️ Common Pitfalls

  • Vaccine recorded after 25th birthday (excluded).

  • Decline or contraindication entered in free text instead of coded.

  • Males born before 1 September 2006 incorrectly included.

  • Missing β€œHPV given by other provider” codes for school/community vaccinations.
