Before you start:
Open the webpage you want to create a shortcut for
Make sure the browser window isn't maximised/full screen (makes dragging easier, for drag-based methods)
🔴Google Chrome
Click the three dots (⋮) menu, top right
Hover over Cast, save, and share
Click Create shortcut...
Tick Open as window if you'd like it to open without browser tabs/toolbars
Click Create
🟢Microsoft Edge
Click the three dots (...) menu, top right
Hover over More Tools, then Apps
Click Install this site as an app (or Pin to taskbar, depending on version)
Confirm — Edge will create a desktop shortcut automatically
🟠Mozilla Firefox
Firefox doesn't have a built-in "create shortcut" button
Simplest method:
Resize the browser window so you can see the desktop behind it
Click and drag the small padlock/site icon at the start of the address bar
Drop it onto the desktop
This creates a
.urlshortcut file that opens the page in your default browser
🔵Safari (Mac only)
Click File in the menu bar
Click Add to Dock...
