⛔️ What Happens If a Patient Books an Appointment but Doesn’t Attend?

Updated over 3 months ago

Hippo uses coded care events, not appointment bookings, to decide whether a patient still needs to be recalled.

This means if a patient books an appointment but doesn’t attend, or the care is delivered but not correctly coded in EMIS, Hippo will assume the care hasn’t been completed.

🧠 How Hippo checks for care completion:

  • Hippo runs daily checks against the patient’s record in EMIS

  • If the required SNOMED code hasn’t been entered, the system will keep the patient marked as needing care

  • The patient may be recalled again in the next campaign cycle

Attending the appointment isn’t enough. Care needs to be correctly coded to register as complete.

📌 What can practices do?

  • Make sure care delivered is accurately recorded using the correct SNOMED codes

  • Use the Patient Summary in Hippo to check what care is still showing as outstanding

  • If you're unsure why someone is still being recalled, contact the Hippo team and include the NHS number
