By default, Hippo writes back a standard SNOMED code into EMIS when an invitation is sent through an automated recall campaign (you can view the default code by clicking the 'See Default Settings' button at the Recall Flow stage of setting up a campaign).
However, some practices prefer to use custom SNOMED codes to track invitations differently in their reporting or align with local coding policies.
✏️ How custom SNOMED codes work in Hippo
When setting up a recall campaign, you can choose whether to use the default Hippo invitation code or a custom SNOMED code.
If you choose a custom code, Hippo will write that code back to EMIS whenever a patient is sent an automated invitation.
This works for all invitation methods — SMS, email, WhatsApp, and NHS App.
📌 Why use a custom SNOMED code?
To match existing local recall templates or coding policies
To make invitations easier to identify in EMIS searches or reports
To support QOF or enhanced service reporting that requires a specific invitation code
⚠️ Important to know
The SNOMED code must be valid and active in the SNOMED database for EMIS to accept it.
Not all codes will automatically appear in Hippo’s invitation code dropdown.
If you want a code added, send the code and description to the Hippo Support team, and we’ll make it available for campaign setup.
If you set up a campaign without specifying a custom code, Hippo will use the default invitation code.
🛠 How to set a custom invitation SNOMED code
1️⃣ When creating or editing a recall campaign, go to Step 4: Recall Flow.
2️⃣ Expand the 'Message' you want to add the custom code to
3️⃣ Under the 'Write Back to EHR' section, select the Custom Codes field and choose your custom code from the dropdown.
❗️If your preferred code is missing, pause here and contact Hippo Support to request it.
4️⃣ Continue setting up your campaign as normal — Hippo will now write back the selected code for all invites in that campaign.
💬 Need a code added?
Send us the SNOMED code and full description.
We’ll confirm once it’s available in the custom code dropdown list.
