πŸ”Ž Expanded Vulnerable Group & New Age Filtering in Automated Campaigns

Learn how to use the new vulnerable group and age filters when creating recall campaigns

Updated over 3 weeks ago

We’ve introduced new filtering options in Patient Selection when creating a recall campaign.

You can now filter patients by:

  • πŸ₯ Vulnerable groups

  • πŸŽ‚ Age ranges

This gives you more control over exactly who is included (or excluded) from your campaign.

πŸ“ Where to find this

When creating or editing a campaign:

Under Step 2: Patient Selection

You’ll now see two filter sections:

  • Vulnerable groups

  • Age

πŸ₯ Vulnerable Group Filtering

You can filter patients based on the following groups:

  • Housebound

  • Care Home

  • Palliative Care

  • Learning Disabilities

  • Dementia

  • Special Allocation

For each group, you can choose:

  • No Filter – Include everyone regardless of status

  • Target – Only include patients in this group

  • Exclude – Remove patients in this group from the campaign

Example uses:

  • Exclude housebound patients from an online booking campaign

  • Target care home residents for a specific review

  • Exclude palliative care patients from routine recall

  • Exclude Special Allocation patients from automated messaging campaigns

πŸŽ‚ Age Filtering

You can also filter by age:

  • Adults 18+

  • Seniors 65+

  • Children <18

  • Custom age range

For each age range, you can choose:

  • No Filter

  • Target

  • Exclude

Example uses:

  • Target only over-65s for a vaccine campaign

  • Exclude children from an adult-only recall

  • Create a campaign for a specific age bracket

πŸ”Ž How filters work

Filters apply in addition to your selected indicator(s).

This means:

  1. Patients must first meet the indicator eligibility.

  2. They are then included or excluded based on your vulnerable group and age filter settings.

🧾 How Hippo identifies vulnerable groups

Hippo uses nationally recognised SNOMED codes and refsets to identify patients within each vulnerable group.

Where relevant, groups are defined using the Cluster ID field within the national refset. Searching the Cluster ID will return all codes included in that grouping.

🏠 Housebound

Identified using nationally recognised SNOMED codes for housebound status, including:

  • 160734000 – Housebound

  • 105480006 – Lives in own home

  • Any associated codes within the national housebound cluster

🏑 Care Home

Identified using nationally recognised SNOMED codes for care home residence, including:

  • 160736003 – Lives in nursing home

  • 160735004 – Lives in residential home

  • Any associated codes within the national care home cluster

πŸ›‘ Special Allocation

  • 1617971000000117 – Registered with Special Allocation Scheme

🌿 Palliative Care

  • 103735009 – Palliative care (regime/therapy)

  • 414937009 – On Gold Standards Framework for palliative care

🧠 Learning Disabilities

  • Identified using the national Learning Disability refset

  • Patients in the associated removal refset are excluded

πŸ“˜ Dementia

  • Identified using the national Dementia refset
